  • Fall 2011 Nail Polish Collection

I purchased many of these nail polishes last fall. The newest one is Essie's nail polish called "glamour purse." These are the colors I want to wear this fall because I feel they go well with the colors of the season - muted golds, grays, and purples.

    Here they are in order:

    1. Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Nail Polish - "Shining Moment."  - The one I have was a bit gooey when I purchased it, probably because it was sitting on the shelves of my local Rite Aid for a while. It's not the easiest to work with, but it's amazing when it dries and lasts a long time.

    2. Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro - "260 Gold Silk" - This is my all time favorite everyday nail polish. It lasts and lasts and always looks good, regardless of the occasion. Good for work, the beach, a date, night time, day time, Sunday brunch, you name it. Everyone needs a nail polish like this. Kudos to Rimmel on making a wide brush.

    3. OPI Nail Lacquer - Cosmo -"Not Tonight Honey" - This was a let down. I will still wear it because it's pretty, but it looks a lot different on my nails than it does in the bottle. On my nails it appears as a pearly whitish color. I was going for a more rusty pearl, much like Rimmel's Gold Silk. However, it's still pretty and the wide brush is amazing. :)

    4. Petites Color Fever Nail Polish - 510 "Vintage Gray" - This is a beautiful crisp gray. It's what you think of when you imagine chic models in expensive restaurants, or simply the rails of an old doc on the shores of Washington state. (I know, two totally different images!) The brush is small, and sometimes tough to work with, but the polish lasts a long time when used with a top coat. I love it.

    5. Essie Nail Polish - "Glamour Purse" - I haven't tried this one out yet but it's a dark brown/gray, close to a taupe. It's excellent for business outfits and that "rainy fall" look.

    6. Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro - "270 Steel Gray" - I am in love with Rimmel's nail polishes. This one is a rich dark purple mixed with gray. To the naked eye, this may look similar to the Essie but it's not. It's decidedly more purple. I can't wait to wear it this season.

    7. Brucci Nail Hardener - "Mia's Branzenberry" - This was a spur of the moment buy. I was looking for something dark for the winter months and I wanted a dark purple. It came out A LOT darker than I expected, but somehow it worked. Many people gave me compliments on it. However, it chipped fairly quickly and the small brush was difficult to work with. The polish was very runny. I would not buy another color from this brand, but I was intrigued by this particular color. Sometimes I feel like those really cheap nail polishes actually have a wider variety of colors than the expensive brands.

    8. NYC In a New York Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish - "264 Lincoln Square Lavender" - As a native New Yorker, I love these. One of my all time favorites was "Central Park" until I realized how quickly it dried up. These are inexpensive (2-3 dollars a pop), they dry super quickly, and they last a good while. This color is especially pretty for spring, summer, and fall. It works with most outfits and looks very girly/pretty. I believe it's a good match for fall because it reminds me of ripe fruit - plums, dragon fruit, pomegranate, guava, etc.

    --------------

I might do some posts later in the fall with swatches of each color as I wear it. Until then, feel free to post your favorite fall nail polishes.

  • Alba Dupe!

Today I was shopping at Trader Joe's when I noticed this dupe!

Yes, who could believe it? Trader Joe's has an almost exact copy of Alba's moisturizing cream shave. The only difference is the scent, "honey mango," and the cap of the tube is white.

You have no idea how my jaw dropped when I saw this. I can't find Alba's cream shave in any Target anymore! I usually have to order it through drugstore.com or amazon for at least 6 dollars a tube, plus shipping! I think I spent around 9 dollars for the last tube. Guess how much the Trader Joe's costs? $3.49!

A wonderful find. An excellent dupe. Over and out.

  • New Project Pan, Item 3!

    3. Dove "Original Clean" Deodorant

I'm allergic to many deodorants, and this is the only one I can use that doesn't break me out. I've tried using organic deodorants before from Trader Joe's, but I found that those don't work. Most of the time, they don't contain an antiperspirant, so you sweat like a pig. The deodorants are never strong enough, either, so not only do you sweat like a pig, you smell like one. Dove original clean is my HG. Plain. Ordinary. Inexpensive. Effective. What more could you want?

  • Two Weeks Later

So two weeks have gone by and even though I ran over to Walgreens and Rite Aid to buy makeup, the end result was rather disappointing. A few products were exciting! The rest, sadly, made me feel like a junkie with a failed high. Sounds terrible, I know, but I think I'm going back onto the Project Pan for another month.

Instead of planning out a number of items, I'm going to give myself a timeline. Until I finish my student teaching, May 25th, I will not buy anything new. Or I will refrain from buying outrageously new products I don't really need.

Because earlier this week, I made a mistake in buying this product:

Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Pink Pursuit. Maybe I got a dud, but this lip gloss was so sticky and lumpy on my lips. I had to return it asap! It accentuated every imperfection on my lips, and felt very heavy, like glue!

So, today (and yesterday) I finished two products. And I want to start a new list, so here they are.
    1. Bare Minerals - Mineral Foundation in Fairly Light

This is my HG foundation. I use it everyday and it has lasted me a year. The packaging is a little messy, but I recommend it to everyone. It is a little drying, however, if you have chapped skin.

    2. Udder Smooth Udder Cream

HG skin lotion. THE BEST SKIN LOTION EVER! Light scent, sinks into skin quickly, works wonders on face, cheap, and no added chemicals. I don't think I'll ever buy a different lotion again. Just bought a 12oz!

  • Project 10 Pan Complete!!!!!

    #10 Chapstick Moisturizer

Not sure if you can tell from the photo, but I've scraped just as much as I could from the center of the Chapstick. I was surprised this was my number 10!!!!

Let me list all of my products once again, 1-10.

    1. 80 Count CVS cotton pads (rounds)
    2. Batiste Dry Shampoo, Original
    3. Revlon Colorstay Pressed Powder 810 Fair
    4. Samy Fat Hair "0" Calories Thickening Conditioner
    5. Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15, 4fl oz.
    6. Pantene Pro-V Always Smooth Shampoo
    7. Olay Daily Facial Cleanse Cloths
    8. Batiste Dry Shampoo, Original (Second bottle!)
    9. Tresmme Heat Tamer Spray
    10. Chapstick Moisturizer, Skin Protectant/Sunscreen SPF 15

I started my Project Pan on January 23, 2011. You can read my first post here: http://radiantskye.xanga.com/739681067/daily-beauty-routine---project-pan/

That means it took me a little over 2 months to complete it. Of course, I downsized the project to 10 Pans from 20, because I figured it would be cruel to refrain from buying makeup for so long, because I'm super stressed out about student teaching and finishing my Master's Degree.

Let me see: How about we end with a review on the Chapstick Moisturizer:

It's an excellent product. I use these daily and I believe I purchased this one in a three pack. I carry at least one Chapstick in each of my bags, sometimes in the pocket of my jacket, and I have two or three around my makeup stash in my room. They're good, I like the way they smell, I put them on compulsively, especially because of our cold winter this year. Great stuff! A+

Finally, I'd like to say that even though my Project 10 Pan is over, I will continue adding products to my list. Even though I'm allowed to buy products again, I have a feeling I won't buy products for a while anyway. It's reverse psychology, after over 2 months of restricting myself, purchasing new products won't feel as exciting or rebellious as they did when I "wasn't allowed" to get anything new.

The next two products out on their way (within the next few days or weeks) are Udderly Smooth Udder Cream and Bare Essentials Mineral Powder -- both products I love and use on a regular basis. Here's what the Udder Cream looks like!

I swear this has about 2 or so applications left. I can't wait to add this to my list! Stay tuned for the next blog!! :)
